Worse Drivers...Men or Women?
Long has this question been mulled over...until now.
I have the answer.
I'd say we're pretty much equal.
The real difference is that men are bad in different ways to women and perceive driving in different ways.
Men are aggressive, take chances, pull out sharpish and are generally impatient. That's why when they crash they crash big.
The difference in perception here is that men generally KNOW they are like that but only see driving as how they physically manipulate the car rather than looking at driving as the whole package. If someone beeps them they know why. They just don't really care.
Women on the other hand tend to make far more stupid mistakes that don't generally end in crashes but really inconvenience other drivers. Again the difference in perception here is that often the woman doesn't even know she's done anything wrong. That's one reason why they think men are worse. It's because they don't actually understand how bad they are.
The large majority of women drivers seem incapable of negotiating roundabouts (at least 60%). They just don't seem to get taught it.
I've lost count of the amount of times i've been cut up on a roundabout by a woman that wants to go straight on but approachs it in the left hand lane, enters into the right hand lane (cutting me up in the process) and then exits into the left hand lane, rather than staying in the left hand lane all the time.
I can tell that when I beep them for making me slam the anchors on they drive off thinking "Bloody rubbish male driver" oblivious to the fact that THEY nearly caused a crash and that I was driving fine.
I know that that driver is crap but she doesn't. Hence the discrepancy in views.
My girlfriend has a friend that regularly drives 30mph on 60 roads. For some reasosn she thinks it's safer. Little realising that all the other cars behind are actually appoaching her at 30 mph as if she was stationary.
When men beep her and overtake angrily SHE thinks that THEY are crap male drivers.
When you're tonking along the inside lane of a motorway (observing the 70mph speed limit of course) and someone is doing 60 in the middle lane forcing you to pull out over two lanes or undertake them then if it's not an old person chances are it's a student girl. Completely oblivious to the correct way to drive along a motorway. Again she thinks she is doing fine but countless men are passing her and thinking she's crap. It's as if they think that the inside lane is only for lorries (here's a tip to the ladies...the inside lane can be used by cars too).
Last but not least women just aren't very polite to other drivers. If I give way and pull in where there's not enough room for two cars to pass 8 out of 10 men will raise a hand in thanks while 8 out of 10 women will not. As if it's my duty to pull over for them.
I have no idea why that is as women seem to be polite in other spheres of life.
So in balance I'd say that women edge it in the worse drivers stakes. They just don't know they do.
(PS...apologies to the women drivers that don't do the things I've mentioned...at the end of the day we all know that old people of either sex are the worse drivers )
