I've just completed on a house today. My first venture on the housing ladder.
Lots of decoration to do now, so if I'm a bit quiet you know why!

Cool. I bought a bungalow "in need of modernisation" a few years back. There's still stuff that needs doing! If you're plannng any major DIY...work out how long you think it will take and then add at least half again. Especially if you need to prepare what you're doing (cleaning, stripping walls, etc). Or better yet pay someone to do it if you can.

Just so you all know, I HATE woodchip. Stripping woodchip ingrained with years of tobacco is a hideous job, and not good on the old lungs at all. However as I refuse to have it on my walls, strip it I must.

You should have a decorating party. Invite lots of friends round (could be a problem) make them do a bit of decorating, the promise of lots to drink works wonders. Get it the right way round decorate then drink, otherwise who knows what might happen.

Woodchip is an evil invention, used a lot back in the 50's and 60's and possibly even later, before good taste was invented. Basically it's a thick wallpaper with bits of wood in it to create a hideous bumpy effect. Nothing clings better to a wall than old woodchip, so even if you have a steamer (as I do) it still only ever comes off in teeny weeny bits, thus making a relatively minor job into a huge time-consuming, boring and hard task. I've now spent 3 days attached to a steamer, and I think I've developed a 40 a day habit purely by inhaling old tobacco tainted steam.
