Hello all the peep's. Name's Kevin Grant, by way of the UK.
Little back ground, I'm a Muay Thai fighter and SPM practitioner, and expert in Royal Commando H2H combat. (wore the green beret and saw a little action you could say).
I also was fortunate enough (or unfortunate enough?) to have worked as a nightclub producer and security consultant for the Brit Bad boy David Courtney himself.
Now I'm trying to settle down a bit, trying to finish up a dental Hygiene course. Was also looking at trying some Kyokushin-kai.
Glad to be here all!

Hi Kev. I'm new myself so it feels strange welcoming you. However, I was interested that you said you did Muay Thai and Mantis. Do you find that these two styles compliment each other as I've never heard of anyone doing this?
What type of things are in mantis that aren't in Thai? Which would you say is the best striking art?
Also, you said that you are thinking about doing some Kyokushin Karate. That would be three striking arts you are doing then. Have you ever thought about taking up a grappling art to compliment your striking?

Hello gabriel, I cannot dispute that Thai boxing is the best striking art. But I find it takes a heavy toll on the body, and I'm near enough 40 now.
I thought the kyokushin was similar enough to Thai boxing to be as a good replacement without all the wear and tear.
The SPM just brings some fluidity and a better bit of grappling and trapping to the picture.

Er hello as well Angela. And Yes I do post on Tung-fu, but I'm afraid I'm not as popular there as I am at home let us say lol.
I seem to be the butt of a lot of jokes there, but have no intentions of being forced out by certain others.

I wasn't aware that SPM had grappling techniques.

Well I refer to grappling as in sticky hands and trapping/hooking technique.
It doesn't have the ground Combat portion as much, but there is a fair amount in the pure art.

Maybe you should do some BJJ for groundwork.

What I'd like to know is why my bloody introduction thread is now some bullshit personal vendetta. I also don't care too much to be lumped in just because I suffered the taunts of fools on some other forum. Although, I won't dispute the fact that I simply refuse to run away from some 13 yr old muppets, ruining others intentions to dicuss common interests. And yes, if this is jones, then I had already made the necessary journey to meet him face to face. However after a 4 hr train ride, I found he was a simple internet warrior sending me on a wild goose case. idiotic. Well Kevin, I for one am not lumping you in with anyone. Civility breeds civility. Welcome, for what it's worth.

That's fair Andy, and sorry I didn't neccessarily mean that comment for you. More a general statement.

That's fair Andy, and sorry I didn't neccessarily mean that comment for you. More a general statement. I totally understand. At the same time, regardless of which thread it is, I don't take shit from anyone, especially kids who have yet to live any form of life. As I'm sure you're aware, the disruption on this and other boards is contrived, co-ordinated and deliberate. Anyway, I'm sure Angela can clean up this thread if you so prefer.

So anyway Kevin, which MT camp are you with and are you actively competing or just training?
Not knowing where you are in the UK, are part of Paul Whitrods SPM group?

Kev, how's it going mate! Saw you on here an decided to join. You know me, always lurking, but its a pleasure to see your good self on here.
Steelwire mantis all the way! Chow Gar is the SPM 'style' me and Kev were taught, that is to say that as well as being taught Chow Gar SPM I trained in Hung Gar concurrently. I try to make that as clear as crystal; I understand that apparently one of the mantis forms included in system differs slightly to the one that you'll learn from Sifu Whitrod. Personally I never trained with Whitrod Sifu...not so sure about my mate Kev.
My advice: try to take the political stuff you may hear in your classes with a dash of salt ;-) cos what 'YOU' know and your own grasp of SPM is way more important that politics. Teachings of Sifu Tony Leung mate; clear as crystal.
Anyways Kev, not seen you around Bethnal much, how's the course going?

I don't think it's fair to lump everyone together just because they had the misfortune to belong to one particular forum. Everyone who has been banned from this forum was given a fair chance. They just chose to act like morons. Anyway, welcome Kev.

I saw your post up in the Karate section there mate, glad to have your resources and "experiences" on board here lol (for those who don't know him, Steve has some fairly outrageous stories from his past).
Training is a little slack lately I'm ashamed to say, the course is going well, but lot of work. When I'm finished, I'll be back down for some serious training again. Give me a ring when you have the time.
Cheers!
Oh and thanks very much Angela, I'm not really going to allow myself to be that bothered by ramblings, but I appreciate you cleansing it so to speak. I just didn't want to be associated with any other problems here~.
