3rd kyu and green belt is quite unususal. That's quite a long way to come in a year too! Did you do any other MA before karate?

hey all,
thanks for the warm welcome.
no it wasnt a typo.
i train in peterborough under Sensei Milan Dukic - Godan. he is the founder of his association - T.S.K.A (Traditional Shotokan Karate Association)
i think the belts are done diffenerently to most other clubs, the Kyu grades start from 6 - 1 the belts are white, yellow, orange, green, blue, brown and then black.
is that an unusual grading system? how do most other clubs have their grading systems?

Well ours specifically go:-
White, Orange, Red, Yellow, Green, Purple, Purple + 1 Stripe, Brown, Brown + 1 Stripe, Brown + 2 Stripes. Kyu's 10 down to 1.

i think i prefer it with fewer belts as dont have to pay out of all those gradings.
but it a challenge learning everything for the grading, because we have fewer belts, we have to learn more for each belt.
i.e. for my grading to 2nd Kyu blue belt, which i should be doing in the next month or so i will need to do 3 kata's - Bassai Dai, Bassai Sho and Jion.
as well well as any of the Heian kata's and/or Tekki Shodan depending on what my sensei decides on at the grading.
as well as all the Kihon techniques and all the different forms of kumite we have to do.
