Hi folks
Kata is the Heart of Karate. - a phrase often bandied about witohu tmuch in the way of explaination.
Saturday 27th November 2004 sees a collaboration between Martyn Harris sensei of the Red Dragon Karate Institute and John Burke sensei of the Eikoku Karate-do Keikokai.
Martyn will will be teaching the Okinawan Kempo kata Niseishi and I will be teaching the Shotokan equivalent Nijushiho.
We will show the differences between the performances and provide workable bunkai and oyo to both kata. The seminar will take place at Martial Arts World, First Floor, 5-7 Market Street, Torquay, Devon; directly opposite Blockbuster video.
The training will be "hands-on", and last not less than 4 hours. We are both informal, friendly instructors, and all questions are welcomed (you can bet three other people want to ask the same question you do but are afraid to ask).
The seminar is politics free, anyone from any association is welcome, all you have to have is an open mind and a thirst for knowledge. You don't have to be a black belt as the principles which we show in these kata are universally applicable.
Martyn and I will be going for "lemonade" in the evening and any attendees are very welcome to join us (some say the education is in the evening).
For times and cost, and any other questions please call 01803 664557

We did a similar thing on the Hangetsu/Aragaki Seisan kata back in June. Both John & I had a whale of a time and the session seemed to go down really well with all who attended. The upcoming session will, as John says, be informal and I guarantee it will also be fun (helps with the pain ) aqnd informative. I learn as much from these sessions as anybody I think!! Also....LEMONADE? ?? I was hoping for my usual Paignton shedfull! Nothing changes eh ? ;D

My instructor has been showing the brown & blackbelts at my club Shotokan Nijushiho & Okinawan Niseishi these past couple of weeks, actually. It's be interesting to go to your seminar and learn from other perspectives about these kata. Can't you people do a seminar in Barnsley? ;D Good luck with the seminar day, BTW. I hope that all who go along have a blact and learn a lot. Have a "lemonade" for me!!

Well, I'd love to invite you to my dojo! However, I'd have to ask Sensei first, and now wouldn't be a great time - we're having a lot of problems with our parent organisation and Sensei is actually thinking of leaving it. So... maybe when the 'dust has settled' you'd be able to come and do a seminar, if you'd still be interested... Enjoy your lemonade.
