had a good weekend. I feel rough today, I think my body is telling me to lay off alcohol for a little bit!

I don't mean going to a lesson drunk...but a day or two after i still feel a bit off My old kick-boxing sensei used to say that alcohol before or after training could cause the muscles to seize up. I have no idea if it's true of not. I definitely perform a lot worse if I have had a large drinking session the day or so before. I don't suppose it's surprising as alcohol is actually poisonous to our bodies

Yeah, I went on a long-weekend training camp last summer, and basically spent each evening getting as bladdered as possible (well, the highest grade [8th Dan] was doing so too... it would've been rude not to follow his example... ). The last day of training was a killer, I was soooo ill. I think I actually had a touch of alcohol poisoning. I felt absolutely shocking when training and can barely remember making it to the train station and getting back from Torquay to Doncaster. The next day I had to go into hospital for my tonsils out and got a right old rollocking from the nurse about being so hungover! Ooops.... That was also the same course where we had an early morning training session at 6:00am - I'd only had a couple of hours sleep beforehand and I think I was actually still p!ssed from the night before, but did my best training session of the weekend! lol Even the 8th Dan instructor who was one of the Sensei's in charge of the course came up to me afterwards and complimented me on my kata! Hmmm, maybe I should drink before training... it obviously turns me into a better karateka! lol ;D Well, if you ever go on any training courses with Dave Hazard then beware... that man is one heavy drinker.... *shakes head in disbelief at how much Sensei Hazard managed to put away over the weekend but still remained the fastest, stongest, quickest and hardest-hitting karateka on the course* Anyway, yes I did have a good weekend, thankyou. I went to a TaeKwonDo competition actually. It was WTF (Olympic style ) TKD and I was watching the fighting. Although I've trained a little in TKD, my karate training still comes to the forefront - I want to scream "use your arms for gooness sake!" at them and yell at them to actually block occasionally. Now I know that WTF sparring is a totally different kettle of fish to any other and the way they spar is done for a reason...but even so... I'll always be a karateka and punching is just more natural to me I think.
