Anybody read this book? I've heard it being recommended, and it's required reading for my 2nd kyu exam. I've also heard it being compared to The Art of War and the Bubishi, both of which I have read. The Bubishi I like, the Art of War I find *incredibly* boring, so being compared to both of them doesn't help me. Also, are any particular versions superior? There is one decent translation of the Bubishi, but about a dozen version of the Book of Five Rings

Personally, I find the Book of Five Rings awful. My version (admittedly cheap) is more or less an unsorted collection of Yoda-like sayings of advice. All of which mean exactly nil to me unless I sit down for 2 hours to meditate about them. Not my style of learning.
BUT: google for Jerri Massi's "letters to a great lady"! Jerri Massi is a TKD practitioner and wrote these letters to a woman who was going through a divorce. The letters are based on the book of five rings and interpret it in a modern setting. I liked those *very* much (and it's available on the web for free) - I only ever bought the real book of five rings because I was so fascinated by her letters.

I love this book. Very wise words indeed. Mr Sensei loves it too, she makes us quote it in exams.

For the Google-impaired: www.pipeline.com/~tkd-pix/collectd.htmGood reading. On another note, there is a company called Asiapac that has a comic book version of the Art of War: www.asiapacbooks.com/group.asp?id=70
