Who has read Watch My Back by Geoff Thompson? If you haven't then I strongly recommend it.
For those of you not in the know, Geoff is a Karate guy and Watch My Back is his biography about his time working as a nightclub bouncer. He talks about how to make Karate work on the street through his personal experiences and goes into detail on the pre-emptive strike method of fighting.
Geoff Thompson has been in hundreds of fights and never loses. His books describes the physical and mental spects of fighting and in my oppinion will make you a better fighter.
Also, for those of you who still worry about the law when it comes to pre emptive attacking then this book tells you what to say to the police to get out of trouble if you do get done for violence.

Is this the same one that used to be called "The Bouncer"?

I think bouncer was written beforehand. Watch my back has the bouncer stories in it but also a lot more stuff too.
EDIT - I think that's true anyway.

Geoff Thompson is a top bloke in breaking things down into explosive techniques. Didn’t he used to run what he called a ‘DOG DAY’ where you turned up trained then had a fight? Or am I thinking of someone else?? It was a long time go.

It's "animal day". You go and fight each other with basically no rules. You can literally do anything you want at animal day.
I was going to go but it turned out that one of the things I couldn't do was use my stun gun.

He has changed the name then, but it is the same guy and it is still happening thats good...if you like that sort of thing. His books are interesting and worth a read.

More interesting than Geoff's early work as a bouncer is his current conviction that violence is not to be praised and how his experiences have turned his life around so that he no longer gets mixed up in the world of violence.
Geoff advocates hard training, but there are rules and safety equipment on an "Animal Day" too. There was some stupid television coverage of an "Animal Day" that showed a guy with his face bloodied, but most people tap out get to grappling before any major blood spillage.
Geoff Thompson is a great author, his books should be considered mandatory, and I wish everyone would pick up on the message in the books rather than just the violent stories.

It is always interesting reading the biographies and books of people who had led violent lives, either through legal honest work like Geoff, or people like McVicar who is now an author and broadcaster. They move from a position of almost glamorised violence, to condemning it as they move through life. When these books start at one point and finish at the other they should be read in that order, hopefully to help people see how violence destroys everything around, and should at all cost be avoided.

You have to admit though that the violent stories are cool.

Who has read Watch My Back by Geoff Thompson? If you haven't then I strongly recommend it. I agree, it's a very intersting book - I also like one of his other books `Red Mist'

His books are pretty good. He makes some great points, especially in the later books he's written. I've not read all of his works, but I really should do as I like the ones I've read.

the next Geoff Thompson book I keep meaning to buy is Dead or Alive - I flicked through it while at a book shop the other day and it looks very interesting.
Hurry up pay day!
