Buy it.
Unless you already know judo and wrestling that is. He makes it quite obvious that throws, joint locks, chokes and strangles are as much part of karate, perhaps even more so than kicks, punches and blocks.

Totally agree! Throws For Strikers is another great one of his that I'd recommend.

Iain Abernethy is an outstanding guy, I've only been to one of his seminars so far but hope to attend more when I have the chance. His newsletter makes for very interesting reading as well, you can sign up for free at www.iainabernethy.comI have one of his DVDs and it's also very good.

I tried to sign up to that but it didn't work. I think I'll work out stuff for myself anyway. It's not as much fun being told the answer.

No, but there often isn't a right or wrong answer for certain things. Iain Abernethy comes up with great stuff and his books are a must-read for any MAist. Still, it doesn't mean that you are being told the answer or that you are 'forbidden' from coming up with other ideas. It';s just that sometimes books, dvds, seminars, courses, etc etc can all be great resources on that journey of discovery. Sometimes a map or guide book is useful. Plus, you don't always have to agree! Reading/watching/hearing something you disagree with is often a good starting place to try and figure out your own explanations.
