Ban smoking in all public places that is the answer.
And before someone gets on the liberal high horse about rights to smoke, what about my right not to go somewhere and end up smelling like an ashtray and having to breath in smoke off the end of cigarettes but also that smoke which has been through the lungs.
Sitting in a restaurant enjoying my dinner in the non-smoking section, with waste products wafting over everything one is eating, horrible.
And those who claim it will affect pub trade; Eire seems to be doing quite well with a full ban.
We have one government department telling us it is bad for us, and another rubbing its hand together from the revenue it brings in.

It's been easy this time round for some reason! I haven't missed it at all and certainly don't have any cravings....which is nice!

Ban smoking in all public places that is the answer. I couldn't agree more!! I was in Ireland not long back and the pubs (believe me, I tested plenty ;D) were always jam packed. All the restaurants I saw seemed to be doing well to. It was really nice to be able to go to a pub or out for a meal and not come home smelling disgusting, having had to sit choking on smoke for a few hours. I realise that smoking is addictive and I'm not anti-smokers - just anti-smoking. Yes, people have a right to smoke if they wish but do they have to do it when I'm enjoying a quiet night out at a restaurant or in a pub?? I just hope that the UK government gets it's act together and follows the example of Eire asap. BTW, congratualtions on giving up, Andy! I hope that you can stick at it.

Oh I will Aefibird! I was stood outside on a break at work today with a couple of smokers....it reminded me just how disgusting it really is!
Although I don't think smokers have taken offence to it being banned in restaurants and pubs, I think it's the fact that, yet again, the government is telling us what we can and can't do, where we should and shouldn't smoke. I think the best option in the long run would be to give the establishents the choice of being a non-smoking place, a smoking place or both like many places are already.

here in spain the laws come in in january. smoking is banned in all public places and in all workplaces. the exceptions are pubs and restaurants. if they are under 100m2 they have to choose and advertise as either smoking or non smoking. over that they can have a smoking section. if they have smoking at all, whether a section or the whole place children are banned. here this is a big thing because kids are only banned from the paying clubs. in my opinion this is good because i can only imagine the fights in glasgow with everyone standing outside the pubs for a smoke. it will be mayhem.

Yes, been clean for a while now! ;D Well done mate! I must admit that I have never smoked, but I have nothing aginst smokers. If people want to smoke, let `em as long as it doesn't effect others. What I cannot stand are ex smokers hassling smokers to quit.

Smoking is a personal choice, I still have many friends that smoke....but I'm smug in the fact I don't reek! ;D
