Not quite a twist of my ankle, training partner blocked a mawashi geri while practicing kicks. My foot hardly touched his arm but got bent back and because it was sprained a month or two ago it was quite painful.
The ankle is obviously still weak. Got any suggestions for non painful ways of strengthening it?

Ok, found something with big elastic bands or bicycle inner tube.

Don't put the bands on too tight - you'll risk gangrene.
Seriously, try standing with your feet on a thick book - about an inch thick, and raising/pushing up your body weight until your heels are off the ground. Go very gently though.

Make sure you keep the ankle supple, by gentle stretching and manipulation. I hate it when I strain an ankle, it can take ages for you to feel completely confident/safe with it.
