How far do people take their stretches?
To the point they can't stretch any more...then a little further then hold?

I presume you mean static stretches? When I perform static stretches I stretch until I cannot go any further without pain (slight discomfort is OK and to be honest expected) I then hold that stretch for a slow count of 15 afterwards I perform the same stretch on the other leg and then repeat.
I also do dynamic stretches basically I swing my legs front, side and back but with control, but going mad and ballistic.

Yes, static stretches.
I only ask because my flexability is attrocious and wondered if it was something I was doing.
Maybe I just need to do more of it! ;D

Rigsville makes a good point (sorry not managed this highlighting things yet). The leg swinging I use to warm up before any sort of training. Also arms, in fact anything I can swing about.
At least twice a week, and sometimes more if I can, I try to do the type of stretching where you stretch until you can stretch no more, then add a little more, it is better done with a partner to avoid jerky sudden movements.
I think the reason I do this s one prepared the muscles and tendons for exercise where as the other adds flexibility to them.

Partner stretching is a great way of going about it IMO. It can give you a bit more 'stretch' than you'd get by just stretching on your own. Plus, they can apply steady, gradual pressure to a specific area, something which is harder to do when stretching on your own.

If you don't have a partner, and you can afford it, buy a stretching machine. I own a century versa flex, I use it about 15 min/day. As good as partner stretching.

If you go for a manual one they are so cheap nowadays. They used to be as expensive as the electric ones are today. (Does that make me sound old?)

I remember the old Flexmasters, they were good. The versaflex, I have found, is a reliable streatching machine. It works for me.

I have both his videos and books, he does know what up. But you will need to do the strengthening excersises as well as the stretching
