I suppose if you've got a sucessful formula AND people are willing to keep buying it then there's not a lot of reason to change it.
The HP series is a case in point - every book follows a basic formula (Harry at Dursleys house, gets rescued from there, gets to Hogwarts often via Rons house, has basic school stuff for a few chapters, big plot device builds up, a few chapters on Quidditch - with Slytherin usually - , a "Harry/Ron/Hermione discover something they shouldn't" bit, an amusing or sad interlude with Hagrid, a "Harry/Ron/Hermione do something they shouldn't" bit, a "Harry is talked to by Dumbledore bit" and a big climactic ending). There's a cliffhanger at the end of the new book, but the rest of the plot formula is there.
It's all in there in every book, but people like reading it and people keep buying it, so she's not gonna alter that formula anytime soon, especially as there's only one book left for the end of the series.

Aefibird, you summed up the HP books perfectly!
I must admit this sort of frame work annoys me with any series of books, but if they are well written they can still be entertaining.

Aefibird, you summed up the HP books perfectly! Thanks! I've read them enough times to be able to spot every plot device in them.... Anyway, even though they're basicaly the same story rehashed, if people are willing to keep buying the books and watching the films (and buying the cruddy merchandise) then she's not gonna change that sucessful formula, is she?
