talk.google.com/Just another instant messenger clone? Yes and no. This one is based on a fantastically flexible open software system called Jabber. It's been around for a while can be plugged into anything. It's never really taken off for instant messaging despite it's flexibility because the big guys, (ICQ, Yahoo, Microsoft and AOL) have been pushing their own proprietary (and incompatible) instant messengers. It may not see important but in I.T. this is big, Jabber does for messaging what the internet protocols did for networking. Orange for instance have started rolling it out for their mobile network. Any of those Gmail invites still going?
