Let this be a lesson.
My cable modem died on friday, they aren't sending a replacement till monday. I am at the moment, using one of my neighbours wireless network.
I have wireless of my own, but I'm a systems administrator by trade and know what I'm doing, it's encrypted with rotating cyphers, anyone listening will be there for several thousand years before they make it in. I was rather surprised when my laptop connected to my email without the cable connection, it'd grabbed a network address from my neighbours network when it booted. My neighbours (no idea which) it seems pulled their wireless router out of the box, plugged it in and well, that's about it. Completely wide open. Should I choose to, I can scan their network, download, upload files, investigate their PCs etc etc. A stalker's paradise.
If you are using wireless, turn the security features on. They aren't brilliant but they stop casual access. Turn on WEP 128 bit encryption (can be cracked in a couple of hours by someone who really wants in) and tape the key you use onto the bottom of wireless router so you don't forget. I'll have a word with my neighbours on monday.

Good advice Mr P
Another tip is to change the default admin password!
I've lost count of the number of wireless network's I've visited that had left the default password enabled.
