What's your day been like?
Mine's been very eventful, almost action-packed! lol
It started when I was running late for work this morning (damn alarm clock's fault!) and I had to divert around half of South Yorkshire just to get to work. A 10 minute journey took almost 45 mins - just what you need when you're running late!
Anyway, when I finally got to work I was told the reason for the diversion - one of the roads was blocked because of the bucketloads of rain we've been having up here lately.
The main road that my work is on dips in the middle, making like a 'valley'. Rainwater always collects in a huge puddle in the dip and it was especially bad this morning. This guy (who happened to be a construction worker on the place I work at) had been riding his motorbike, seen the water but decided to go through it anyway. As a result his bike hit the water, flipped over and pinned him face-down in the water! He was drowing, but couldn't get up as his bike was pinning him down. Luckily, another road user was behind him, saw what happened and rescued him.
The police were there and cordoned off far too many roads than necessary, making it a pain in the a$$ to actually drive anywhere.
Anyway, after all that, when I finally got to work I was greeted with the 'cheery' news that we'd have no hot water or telephone system for the day, because of all the building work that is going on. The school I work at is being renovated and an extension added. About halfway through the morning they also turned the heating system off, so we've all been sat shivering in our coats for the remainder of the day.
Just when I didn't think that the day could get any more eventful it was playtime. One of the kids tripped and went face-first into one of the wooden 'picnic' type benches that we have outside for them to sit on. The kid was screaming 'cos blood was dripping into his eyes from this massive gash on his forehead, so I had him to deal with. The 'bloodbath' outside made another child feel ill, so she was sick all over the place, which another child accidentally stepped in....
We have some delightful children where I work! lol
At lunchtime I had to go and exchange a few heated words with the builders (who are as useful as a chocolate teapot!) as they'd manage to reverse a lorry into my car whilst landscaping the new staff car park. Thankfully, there's no real damage to it, but I was very cross.
Then, to round up a 'great' day I had to confiscate a knife off a boy who'd smuggled it into school and was threatening to stab another child with it after school. The boy with the knife is only 9... *shakes head in disbelief*
After calling his parents (who basically didn't believe a word I said about their little darling - at one point they even accused school of leaving a knife around that he could pick up. Er.... ) I was ready to just go home and crawl under the duvet and not emerge til tomorrow.
Anyway, I'm chilling out with The Calling, chocolate and Ribena (my non-alcoholic combo to make any bad day seem better!) but I'm not actually looking forward to training tonight. Knowing the sort of day I've had today I'll probably end up with a broken leg or summat...
