My computer had decided to start playing up. I've got a new motherboard for it but to be honest it's all so cannabilised I'm starting to think it might be easier to buy a higher spec one anyway.
I've had a look at dell but wondered if anyone else had any sort of thoughts (preferably computer related). I do a lot of web design, and some video editing so it needs to be able to cope with that, not bothered about gaming particularly, but I will be watching DVDs etc on it. Other than that, a lot of memory would also be a factor.

I'm a big fan of Dell equipment.
OK you can get faster computers for less money, but I find that Dell computers give the best overall value for money.
Other companies I would recommend are are HP and even Watford Electronics (www.SavaStore.com)

I've heard good things about Dell and the whole of the company I work for uses Dell machines and TFT monitors! (probably because Dell are based just over the road from us! ;D )

the company I work for uses Dell machines and TFT monitors! At my company, we also use Dell for 80% of our equipment (Desktops, Servers and Laptops) and the other 20% are HP (Servers)

Dell supply all our desktops and laptops.
I think we use HP servers...not sure though...the server rooms are far to cold to hang around admiring the view in! lol

We have HP servers at my work and we've always had trouble with them, so the school is thinking of switching the servers.
Our other equipment is a mish-mash of names, depending on when we bought it - due to when we get grants or money in the school budget for equipment!! The best equipment we have tends to be by Packard Bell or Brother - it's the stuff that seems to be able to take the most "hammer" from the kids and also is easy to use and reliable.
My current PC is a Packard Bell and it has been fine. My previous one was by Compaq and that was OK, but had a tendancy to throw wobblies from time to time.

It is important to remember that wherever one gets a new computer from the Devil lives in PCWORLD. Avoid it like the plague, this should become your mantra, I will buy a new computer…but not from PCWORLD…repeat as often as is needed…and when one feels weak please call the emergency number…08457 90 90 90. Just tell them you are thinking of visiting PCWORLD, they’ll put you straight.
(By the way on a serious note…the number is Samaritans they may or may not recommend the above-mentioned store, but they will be useful when, having bought a PC from PCWORLD, you feel the need to through yourself under a train, of a building etc. etc. Having spent three days trying to get through to customer support only to be told to reinstall the operating system thus loosing all the work you have done. ) ;D

1st PC was a Dell, and it was very good p111 733mhz. Win98' and the worm viruses eventually killed it.
Bought a Packard Bell from PC World as a quick fix, which is what I use at home now, and it's been a huge dissapointment in many ways.
The first Dell I spoke to some lad in Ireland, had some good crack on the phone, and got what I needed without any fuss.
Just received a new Dell for work (High Spec 9150), but it was a bit of a nightmare, as Dell now use an Indian call centre, kind of losing the human touch. Maybe they'll change their name to Delhi? Machine itself is great, though the main DVD drive makes a goddawful racket (I'll let it settle in a bit before complaining).

I once bought a PC from PC World - it is indeed owned and staffed by Lucifer and his army of darkness. I shall certainly never be stupid enough to go to that place again. Customer service? Value for money? Hah, don't make me laugh.

Ah I purchased a new pooter of a friend who has a pooter type business. It's a very powerful machine and pretty much does everything but the ironing! The same spec PC from Dell would cost about £1000, but I got it for substantially less than that. Yay!
