Is it just me or are courier companies a creation spawned from the blackest depths of hell? DHL in particular really, really pisses me off. They turn up with absolutely no notice, only ever on a workday, seem surprised no one is in, leave a note and expect us, the damned customer to chase around trying to get our own goods! So you phone back up and they suggest another date they can deliver, yet another bloody workday, and explain that they don't deliver on a Saturday, oh and it'll take longer now because it's a Bank Holiday. If I want to run around arranging things with the company that sent the goods in the first place I can get them to phone up and confirm it can be sent to another place (such as my workplace). Apparently I am not allowed to allocate another delivery address off my own back, and God forbid I ask for it to be left with a neighbour. So if I want my goods anytime soon I now have to wake up at some stupidly early time tomorrow, to drive all the way to Exeter and pick it up, but I have to be in Paignton by 10.30am. So no Saturday lie in for me. I never seem to be able to get a package without some sort of extended battle with the damn courier company! People should send stuff via Royal Mail. At least then we can pick it up from the local Post Office.

I had issues like that when I got my phone delivered. A company down here, ANC I think they were called. Tried to deliver a package to my home address even though I'd stipulated I wanted it delivered to work when I ordered my phone. Phoned the number on the card they left me and told them I'd requested it be delivered to work. 5pm the next day I called them asking where my package was they said the driver couldn't deliver so it was back at their depot. I told the lady I'd drive the 20mins to come pick it up the next day. So the next day I drive over their only to be hanging round for half an hour while they tried to look for it, the guy comes back and said the driver dropped it off at the post room at work that morning!! *sigh*

Yup I totally agree. At least with Royal Mail they deliver on Saturday's and also will deliver to the nearest post office if you aren't in when they call. Courier companies seem to go out of their way to make life as difficult as possible for customers. I had a running battle with DHL when I ordered some martial arts stuff. I was out and asked for it to be re-delivered on a specific day when I was off work. They didn't come that day, which was a Friday, but instead called the following Monday, by which time I was back at work. Because I wasn't at home they refused to re-deliver it again and said that I had to go to their depot to pick it up, which is about 20 miles away from where I live.

Been waiting in for Argos all day. So many things I could be doing but NO I have to wait in based on some vague times "Yes Angela, we'll be there some time between May 2006 and October 2011, could you please make sure someone is in for us to deliver" I got out of bed early to ensure I didn't scare any potential deliveries with my bed face, and I've been sat around all day surfing the 'Net. Seriously I think delivery companies suck. I think there is an open market for a delivery company with good customer service. If they don't turn up today I am going to flip my lid as I've had to take another day off work to wait in for them. If I had gone out I bet they would have turned up early.

what i really love is when they show up and your package is all beat up and you've been waiting for it forever and then they want a tip. what's up with that?

Well, thankfully we don't go in for the "tip culture" over here like you guys do in the US...but I understand your sentiments.
Delivery companies bring your package eventually, after a squillion years delay and after promising 'faithfully' that it would be here on a particular day (year, right) but still expect customers to act eternally grateful that they've finally managed to just do their jobs when it does turn up - usually all bashed about too.
