When I wash my do-gis I always carefully separate them from all the bright colours which may run in the washing machine. Only this time I have done two washes in a row, a colours followed by my white wash and I rather stupidly dumped them all in the same basket for a while after before hanging them on the line. Now something red has decided to deposit pink little marks all over 2 pairs of my gi trousers and a T-Shirt. Now as groovy as a tie-dye gi looks I don't think it quite gives out the proper image or would be fully appreciated in the dojo. I've hung them out in the sun in the hope that it may naturally bleach them out a bit but has anyone got any advice if that doesn't work? I would like to get the marks out without damaging or compromising the material of the gi. If I had a brain-cell I'd be dangerous.

When I once inadvertantly dyed my nice bright white gi a lovely shade of blue (a rogue sock left lurking in the washing machine), I used the following method to remove the colour. 1) Wash at high temperature ( at least 60 degrees) with a brightening agent/washing bleach (I used ACE bleach) 2) Fill bath with very hot water and an oxygen-based stain remover (such as OxyMagic crystals) and leave garment flat in bath to soak for a few hours. 3) Remove from bath and wash again at high temperature with more washing bleach. That method worked for me and my gi came up "whiter than white". You can also buy specialist colour-run remover, but I once used it to remove marks from a pale t-shirt and found that it left the fabric very 'rough'. Good luck with your laundry problem!
