Ok. Here's another question on this darned kick. When you actually make contact with it on something, such as a pad, how on Earth do you stop yourself from flying forward?

I think the main problem with the Ushiro Geri is application, because it is usually practiced as a spinning back thrust kick that is how one starts to see its application and practice, it is however best practiced with something supporting your body weight and thus preventing you from flying forward, usually the person you have just delivered a Zuzuki, Empi, Hizageri combination, they will most likely be on their way down, you may even have to hold them up.
To put this into some form of context, it is late, you are in a Kebab shop minding your own business when scumbag 1 starts being aggressive towards you, you get stuck in with the aforementioned close quarter technique. The result is scumbag 1 is on the way down. However, scrum bag 2, probably a drunken friend of scumbag 1 (now in a lot of pain) is already on his/her way over. There is no time to turn so the only realistic option at this point is the Ushiro Geri, thrown from a standing not spinning position. Scumbag 1 acts as a damper for the force so you don’t fall over or anything daft like that. The leg goes straight back into something soft and delicate belonging to scum bag 2. As you pull back your leg scumbag 1 gets another Hizageri, you can then make sure scumbag 2 is not going to continue this discussion. (The Kebab shops CCTV footage shows you being attacked by 2 scumbags as well)
The kick doesn’t have to be that high, it does have to be strong and accurate. If by regular practice from Zenkutsu Dachi, spinning round to through the kick, you can get it remotely accurate, imagine the devastating effect it will have when you are balanced and supported.
