FACE!
Anywhere in the face is good. Nose, eyes, mouth. It's an easy place to draw blood from, and has a disorientating effect.
As I see it (and this is all speculation), if someone starts on you and you batter their face with a few punches, they'll either give up (not likely) or just go mental. If they're mental it's easier to hit them with really obvious attacks that they'd otherwise notice.
Failing that - groin, spine, knees.

Groin, knees, solar plexus, temple, instep. Nose can be a good one too.

What do you think about the neck as a target? The neck is very vulnerable and you are less likely to hurt yourself then if you slam into hard bone of the head...
As Terry Pratchett said: Carpe Jugulum

Are there any targets you think you could never bring yourself to hit in a fight (i.e. eyes)?

The neck is an excellent target, but one reason people may not strike to the neck is that a) people forget about it as a serious target area and b) it's smaller that other targets, such as the face or the stomach. No, there's nowhere I wouldn't consider striking if I had to. I'd do things such as putting my fingers up their nose or jamming them into their eyes if I thought that it would help me in a self defence situation. Either that, or I'd do like my instructor did in his first competition and bite the opposition! It was his first competition and he was still a whitebelt. This was back in the days when karate kumite comps were basically an all-out brawl (no padding or nowt). His Sensei had told him to go in there and give everything he'd got and not to be afraid...so he did. He's quite embarassed about it now.
