But they are only any good as "blocks" in a kumite situation, with karate style attacks. Do you really think kata needs to tell you to get out of the way of a punch? I'd have thought that was obvious

It does seem an awful lot of effort just to get a punch in the head! My training partner (mandy) was in hysterics. Kept saying "are you sure?".

The blocks that are good for blocking or receiving should work in any situation using the appropriate block for the attack, surely? Mick
