Well I do Shotokan which is traditionally seen as Japanese - but Funakoshi sensei was Okinawan, but I had to plump with Japanese in the end.

and do the men wear skirts I've demonstrated karate in a kilt. Actually in full highland dress, bonnet, sporran, dirk, sgian dubh. Must have looked very odd. It was enough to convince me that skirts are not ideal for kicking, totally block your vision. It explains to me why they went fighting naked. One thing I should mention to you southern lads is that kilts have a very weird effect on women. The ladies love a guy in a skirt. Don't know why but they can't keep their hands off. It can be quite unnerving. I remember escorting a couple of female cousins out to a party after a wedding. They met up with a group of friends and the whole lot, about 10 of them gave me the once over at the same time. I was clearly considered prey, scared the living daylights out of me.

Does it involve fighting with broken bottles and headbutts alone? That's Wegie-Ryu you're thinking of.
