Help?[/u] Hello everyone! I've never done any sort of martial arts before and was wondering if someone could lend me a hand starting. Looking for a Karate club in my area I found this: www.leicesterkarateclub.co.uk/I was wondering, as I want to start of well if anyone can tell me anything about the school or if you can from the website tell me if it looks like a decent club? Thanks! Josh.

Hi Josh. Get yourself down there, try out the class, and then tell us what YOU think. Going on your reaction, everyone will be in a better position to help you out. The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step......(and all that mystical claptrap). Once you've tried something, you'll have a clearer idea of what you want/need.

Yep, I agree with Andy. The only way you will know for sure is not by a website, but froma visit to the club and a period on the mats. Go for it! (and remember to report back how you found it! )

Personally I'd read as much as I could about martial arts as this will help you work out what they generally offer and perhaps help you in placing any club you visit in the grand scheme of things. Most importantly of all I'd say is to work out why YOU want to do MA and what YOU want out of it. No use wanting to learn some self defence stuff and then going to an exclusively sport fighting club and vice versa. In terms of Shotokan karate that club seems to be pretty good. As long as your sure that Karate is what you want then you probably aren't going to be dissapointed.
The bottom line as everyone has said is to go along and see if you like it. Chat to the instructor and see if he's offering what you want. Give it a go for a while and then you can always move on if it's not right for you.
I'd imagine that Leicester has many clubs so I'm sure one of them will suit you.
