I have an honorary 3rd Dan in TKD from the American Korean Karate Association...now defunct (thank GOD!). I treat it as so much BS because I've never taken so much as one class in the system. Long story behind it. I hold a Yondan in Shorin Ryu Matsumura Kenpo (Seito/Orthodox) Karate.

Long story behind it. Don't be to down on the honorary black belts. It's a TKD tradition, that dates back to begining of modern TKD. It's all political. Former US President Bill Clinton has an honorary 4th Dan from the ATA, and Elvis Presley earned his 2nd Dan but was promoted to an honorary 7th Dan, but didn't retain the "Master" title.

I have an honorary ITF 1st Dan! I understand the principle behing honorary grades and I know that in TKD honorary grading is a part of the system, however, I still find it amusing that I'm a blackbelt in ITF TKD when I've never even taken one grading in it. ;D

You have obviously done something in life that has impressed someone. I have an ITF 4th Dan as well as a 5th Dan in Hwa-Rang Taekwondo (master grade) and I have yet to promote an "Honorable Rank". Be proud! I am, of you.

Oh, I am proud of it! I do see it as an honour and I'm pleased that the Sa Bom Nim who gave it to me was thoughtful enough to consider me for the honorary grading.
However, it just appeals to my sense of humour that I can have a grade in a style I've never trained in. It just tickles me.
