What aspect of you karate training most floats your boat? Why do you think this is?

Well, I was going to pick "other" and say that I like ALL of it, but that defeats the object of the poll... Anyway, I chose Oyo, as I always enjoy that. Bunkai and Oyo are two of my favourite aspects of karate and the most important IMO.

I've gone for kata. I love practicing my kata. When I've had a hard day of work I love just going through all the kata I know without a break, all on my own. By the end of that I feel much calmer and ready to face the world.
Bunkai and oyo are both close seconds!

i have chosen other so i shall elaborate........although i really enjoy all the other aspects mentioned above, for me it's the friendships and sense of family that i have experienced in my short time training, it's the inspirational chats at the bar over a bottle of stella and it's the amazing generousity and friendship received when on a seminar. it might sound a bit cheesy but it's an honest answer

The other members of my karate club are like my family now (although with less arguments)! Yet another "cheesy-but-true" statement...

The dojo can become a home from home and the people some of the best you'll ever hope to meet. Nice answer. Although if I drink Stella you are not going to get anything slightly inspirational, or indeed comprehendable, out of me!

I voted bunkai because it's not possible to vote bunkai AND oyo... I really think these two should go together. They are inseparable in my mind.

Hi, I voted for Other because apart from my favourite aspects of training, what I like is the camararderie that builds up between my Students. I beleive it is so strong that if one was getting grief outside the club then anyone else close would certainly pile in to help out.

Excuse me while I go and be sick. Have you heard yourselves? I like fighting with people and that's why I do martial arts. Punching someone in the face or choking them unconsious is what I enjoy most about training. Martial arts are about fighting, simple as that. It's not about dancing or about having a social it's about learning to fight.

Fighting is about fighting. What separates a martial artist from the thugs on the street if not?

I rather think this could be more aptly labelled Favorite aspects of any art? Since I've not done pure Karate to date, I'd have to say my favorite aspect is the self confidence I had or have when I find myself in a real bloody jam. I can't think of the # of times, that I just exploded when faced with a truly dangerous situation. I responded without thinking. I'm not so much into the blood and gore aspect, rather the power of standing over some muppet who decided to threaten or harm me, knowing the next time he'll think twice...or thrice .

i really enjoy the adrenaline dump of fighting and it is my opinion that any art that doesnt have a very heavy fighting bias should not be called a Martial Art it should be called a "insert arty word" Art

Yeh Kev, totally agree mate. Nothing like seeing the look on some skinhead's face when he gets a good phoenix eye at short range. Couple that with the explosive ging and its "Goodnight Vienna" so to speak.
